Interior Design Consultation

Every project starts with a conversation

Every project at Sarah Hardin Design starts the same way: with a conversation. A design consultation is a focused, in-person or virtual meeting where Sarah walks your space, listens to how you actually live in it, and maps out a plan before anything is purchased or installed.

Sarah uses that first meeting to figure out which of her packages actually fits: a two-day Room Refresh, a full New Build and Remodel collaboration with your builder, or something in between.

  • The Bungalow studio entrance: a covered porch with exposed timber beams, a blue front door and a hanging SHD Design sign
  • Bright, elegant living room designed by an interior decorator Boerne, with beige sofas, a patterned ottoman coffee table, a fireplace topped by a large mirror, chandelier, light blue curtains, and large windows streaming natural light.
  • A bedroom with a blue upholstered headboard, layered blue and cream pillows, a brass chandelier, sheer curtains at a tall window and a blue bench at the foot of the bed holding floral bolster pillows.
  • A pastel blue vintage-style stove with gold knobs is set against a tiled backsplash in a bright, elegant kitchen designed by an interior designer Boerne TX. An orange pot and open shelves with blue-and-white dishes add charm.
  • A cozy living room scene, curated by an interior decorator Boerne, with a floral armchair, green-striped pillow, and round wooden table holding a vase and books. Windows, mirrors, and eclectic decor complete this inviting space.
  • A cozy outdoor patio designed by an interior designer Boerne TX, featuring a long dining table with chairs and a cushioned bench. A chandelier hangs from the wooden ceiling, and large windows offer beautiful views of the greenery outside.

What happens during a consultation

A consultation begins with a walkthrough of the room or rooms in question, in person at your home or the Bungalow studio, or over video for out-of-area and out-of-state clients. Sarah asks about how the space is used day to day, what is and is not working, budget range, and timeline. For a kitchen, that might mean watching how you actually move between the stove and the sink; for a living room, it is more often about how many people the space needs to seat and how it is used after dark.

From there, she talks through which of her productized packages matches the scope: Virtual Design for a tighter budget or a client outside the Hill Country, the Bungalow Bundle for a client who already owns most of a room's furniture and wants an expert eye on the finishing layers, a Room Refresh for a single space that needs a fast update, or full-service interior decorating for a whole-home project billed at an hourly rate.

You leave with an actual next step and a rough budget range, and if the project moves forward, that first conversation becomes the foundation for the design concepts that follow.

Who a consultation is for

A design consultation is the right starting point if you are not yet sure which service fits, if you want a professional opinion before committing to a larger project, or if you have a single room that needs direction rather than a full redesign.

  • Homeowners weighing a full remodel against a lighter refresh
  • Clients outside the Texas Hill Country deciding between Virtual Design and an in-person project
  • Anyone who already owns furniture and wants expert direction on finishing touches
  • Builders and architects who want Sarah looped in early on a new build

Why start with Sarah Hardin Design

Sarah is an active ASID member and the recipient of five 1st Place ASID San Antonio Pinnacle of Design Awards, one of the most competitive residential design recognitions in Texas. She was also featured on the cover of Boerne Lifestyle Magazine.

Most consultations happen at her studio and showroom, The Bungalow, surrounded by the same curated furniture, rugs, lighting, and antiques she sources for real projects. Standing next to an actual sofa or lighting fixture makes it a lot easier to talk about scale and finish than pointing at a photo.

A cozy corner curated by an interior designer Boerne TX features a patterned armchair, pink decorative pillow, and white floral pillow. Three framed paintings on beige paneled walls add a charming vintage touch to the space.

Timeline and cost

A single consultation is typically one meeting, in person at The Bungalow or your home, or a scheduled video call for remote clients. What it costs and how long the resulting project takes both depend on scope: a Room Refresh can be installed in one to two days, while a full-service decorating or new-build project runs over several months. Sarah gives you a realistic budget range and timeline during the consultation itself, before you commit to a package.

Frequently asked questions about design consultations

How much does a design consultation cost?

It depends on which of Sarah's packages the project ultimately fits, since a consultation is the step that determines scope. Virtual Design is priced per room, productized packages like the Bungalow Bundle and Room Refresh carry transparent fixed pricing, and full-service decorating or new-build projects are billed hourly each month. Contact us for current rates.

Do I need to decide on a package before the consultation?

No. The consultation exists precisely so you do not have to guess. Sarah reviews your space and goals first, then recommends the package that fits, whether that is Virtual Design, the Bungalow Bundle, a Room Refresh, or full-service decorating.

Can I do a design consultation remotely?

Yes. Clients outside the Texas Hill Country can book a video consultation, which is also the starting point for the Virtual Design package. In-person consultations happen at The Bungalow or on-site at your home for local clients.

What should I prepare before my consultation?

Photos of the space, a rough budget range, and a sense of your timeline are the most useful things to bring. Inspiration images are welcome but not required; Sarah will ask targeted questions during the walkthrough to understand your style.

Do you offer consultations outside Boerne?

Yes. In addition to Boerne, Sarah regularly consults with clients across the Texas Hill Country and greater San Antonio, including Cordillera Ranch, Fair Oaks Ranch, Stone Oak, and Alamo Heights, plus Fredericksburg and Kerrville. Video consultations extend that reach nationwide for Virtual Design projects.
